Flavour profile: dark chocolate, caster sugar, cigar | Roasting level: 5/5
This coffee is composed of lots produced by female smallholder farmers working in the area around San Antonio Huista in Huehuetenango. Each producer is responsible for harvesting and processing her coffee on her own farm, after which the coffee is delivered directly to our partner in San Antonio Huista. Primavera’s quality control team evaluates and selects the coffees that are then combined into a cohesive regional lot that reflects the character of the area.
Gender inequality has long been a structural challenge within the coffee sector. Women farmers often face more limited access to land ownership, financing, and education, despite playing a vital role in coffee production. Research shows that when women have genuine decision-making power – including financial authority over matters concerning their farms and family life – communities become more resilient and resources are allocated more effectively to meet real needs.
Each year, Primavera sources exceptionally high-quality coffees from smallholder farmers in Huehuetenango and brings them together into balanced coffees with a classic flavor profile for roasters around the world. Every lot offers full transparency and can be traced back to the individual farm. The Sisterhood blend follows the same quality standards, but the coffees selected for this lot are exclusively produced by women farmers.
This coffee not only highlights the skill and dedication of the region’s women producers, but the additional premium paid for it is also used to fund training sessions and workshops specifically designed for women.
This is the same coffee that was previously featured in our catalog as the highly popular “Primavera Family,” but for this particular lot Primavera has selected only harvests from female producers in the region.
We roast this coffee to be the darkest in our range—while still ensuring the flavor profile offers more than just notes of an ashtray.
