Roasters Challenge 2026 – Audience Favorite 🏆

Flavor Profile: Orange, Almond, Floral     |     Light roast

In the 2026 Roasters Challenge, 20 small Finnish roasteries were presented with the same challenge: an identical batch of green coffee, from which each had to create the best possible roast. Although the starting point was the same for everyone, the final results varied greatly. The competition beautifully illustrates just how much of an impact the choices made by the roaster have on the coffee’s final flavor.

This year, the competition coffee was Shoondhisa from Ethiopia, and we were delighted that Kahiwa's roast was chosen as the audience's favorite!

The Origin of Coffee

Shoondhisa comes from the Guji region of Ethiopia, which is particularly known for its high-quality, fruity, and aromatic coffees. The coffee is grown at an elevation of 2,000–2,150 meters, and its production is managed by Sookoo Coffee, led by Ture Wajin, in collaboration with local smallholder farmers.

This coffee is a blend of two Ethiopian Arabica varieties, Gibirinna 74110 and Serto 74112. After harvesting, the coffee cherries undergo natural processing at the Suke Quto processing station. The coffee cherries are dried whole, so the pulp remains on the beans throughout the drying process. This helps develop the coffee’s characteristic rich fruitiness and sweetness.

Shoondhisa is a great example of how a combination of high-quality beans, careful processing, and expert roasting can result in a truly exceptional coffee experience.

And this time, we weren't the only ones who loved the result! Only a small, limited quantity of this treat is available!
